The OK hand is the digital thumbs-up’s stylish cousin: thumb and index finger pinched into a perfect little circle, three fingers fanned like a tiny peacock saying, “nailed it.” It’s used for crisp approval, A‑OK confirmation, or that “chef’s kiss” energy when something turns out flawlessly—like latte art that actually looks like a leaf and not a sad blob. Online, it swings from sincere to ironic fast: one minute it’s “all good,” the next it’s a dry, “yeah, sure, OK” when your friend is obviously not okay. It also moonlights in jokes and innuendo, especially when paired with the pointing finger emoji for a wink-wink combo.
On Apple/iOS, it’s a glossy, bright-yellow right hand in 3/4 view, smooth gradients and a soft shadow, with the circle crisp and the other fingers neatly arched—recognizably Apple’s rounded, friendly styling. People use it in group chats to confirm plans, on foodie posts to flex a perfect bake, and in gaming streams to mark a clean play. It nods to real-life signals too—scuba divers’ “OK,” basketball’s three-pointer celebration, and the old “circle game” prank. Cultural footnote: in some places (like Brazil and parts of the Mediterranean), this gesture can be rude, and it’s also been tangled in online trolling/controversy—so context matters. Most of the time though, it’s the internet’s tidy stamp of “perfect, moving on.”
Definition
A hand symbol for okay (OK). An "O" is formed with the index finger and thumb and the legs of a "K" are formed with the middle, ring and pinky fingers. Everything is good. I'm A-ok. This emoji can also be used to communicate the act of smoking cannabis (marijuana). A marijuana cigarette (joint) is stereotypically smoked while holding (pinching) between the thumb and index finger. Several versions of this emoji leave a curiously placed space between the thumb and index finger, which can be interpreted as leaving space for the joint, albeit an invisible one. In addition, some versions of this emoji display only the middle and ring finger, making the "K" less pronounced and obvious. Coincidentally, the softbank code includes the number 420, a number that many people associate with smoking pot.

Emoji History The emoji code/ image log of changes.
This emoji was part of the proprietary / non-standardized emoji set first introduced by Japanese carriers like Softbank. These emojis became part of the Apple iPhone starting in iOS 2.2 as an unlockable feature on handsets sold in English speaking countries.
In iOS 5 / OSX 10.7, the underlying code that the Apple OS generates for this emoji was changed.
Only the Thumb and index finger connected to make a circle with no additional gesture usually means you're perfect, don't worry about it. It's only a coincidence that the hex for this Apple/Softbank emoji is e420 :) iEmoji old name: Okay sign.
