• 1. Shortcut in OSX 10.9 Mavericks and above: Command + Control + Space

• 2. Most apps in OSX have the emoji character palette under Edit > Emoji & Symbols (Edit > Special Characters in older versions of OSX)

Emoji For Android

• Android emoji can be switched on and off under settings. But in Android version 4.4 and above emoji should be on by default!

• For older Android versions 4.2 and below or for color emoji in 4.3 you can use one of two free apps. (Update: Left here for convenience, these links no longer work!)
