Options

What can you do here?

  • 1. Generate an emoji to paste elsewhere.
  •   A. The computer I'm using has the emoji I want to use but it's easier to use iEmoji's big copy and paste keyboard.
  •   B. The Computer I'm using doesn't have the emoji I want to use so I get it from iEmoji. (The emoji will show up as a box usually)
  • 2. Decode an emoji, or find out what the emoji is when I already have the code.
  •   A. The computer doesn't show the emoji at all but you can see it through iEmoji. Sometimes you can copy and paste emoji into iEmoji and it will show you the emoji pictures.
  •   B. Emoji shows up incorrectly on other computer but you can view it on iEmoji. Sometimes emojis aren't programmed right and a quick copy and paste into iEmoji will verify your text.
  • C. Find out what the character is by hex code. Paste in the character to see the hex. Go to the Decoder page.
  • 3. Find out what emoji looks like on an Apple computer or iPhone (or Android, LG, Samsung by clicking on the Skin Tone dropdown). If you want to see what your message will look like on your friend's phone, switch the theme to their phone to see how the emojis will look.
  •   A. You can easily see how an emoji will look on an iPhone.
  •   B. Copy and paste Gmail emoji ends up not showing up on an iPhone. We wouldn't have known without iEmoji! Sometimes emojis copied and pasted from other places won't work. iEmoji can sanatize your data.
  • 4. Find emoji by subject copy and paste it in. (use the search function). At the top of the page you can find an emoji by subject. Just start typing to see the results!
  • 5. Find out what the unicode characters are in copy and pasted text. Check out the Decoder page.
  • 6. Check out how an emoji is used by people. Click on an emoji in the keyboard and click the name of the emoji when it pops up. At the bottom of this emoji details page are messages using the emoji in question. You can see how people use them in this context.
  • 7. Look up the meaning/definition of the emoji. Click on an emoji on the keyboard and go to the emoji details page by clicking the name of the emoji that pops up.
  • 8. See a large version of the emoji, since they are so small on phone and computer, optionally save it to your hard drive. Go to the Meanings page
  • 9. Generate a picture of your emoji message, to send to somebody. Type in a message then click picture. It will generate a picture of your message.
  • 10. Identify the hex code of a character. Try out the unicode character decoder: Decode Characters

Emoji is a Standard

Emoji is a computer language created to send lots of information in a small amount of data. It is the equivelent of a list of predefined messages you can select that show up as pictures. The keyboard is under Settings. Just enable it!

Install Emoji on older Android 1.5 to 4.2 with the Handcent Emoji Plugin or the Kii Keyboard.

iOS 4 More Info

From iOS 2.2 all the way through 4, there are two free apps to unlock emojis. Use this walkthrough to use emoji on these devices.

iOS 5

You can now enable emoji by adding the keyboard under settings. Although, there are some PAID apps that will allow you to unlock more.

iOS 6, & 7 & iOS 8 More Info

All the iPhone emoji on iOS 6, 7, 8 and above are available under keyboards. No apps necessary! You get whole wide variety, for free! There's so many to choose from... Emoji flesh skin tones coming soon!

Did you know?

The actual character the iPhone generates changed for many emojis in iOS5 and a handful changed in iOS7. You can still create older iPhone emoji by clicking the cog above the textarea and select the button of your preference under 'Emoji Symbols'.
