The bed emoji is the universal sign for “I’m tapping out—catch me in horizontal mode.” It signals bedtime, nap o’clock, post-brunch coma, or the sacred weekend ritual of bed rotting (shoutout, TikTok). People drop it to bail on plans, announce a Netflix-and-nap marathon, or to flirt with a coy "come over?" It also doubles as a soft SOS for burnout, jet lag, or a sick day when your only travel plan is Pillow to Blanket.
On Apple/iOS, it’s a tidy single bed shown from the side: warm brown wooden frame, tall headboard to the left, crisp white pillow, and a smooth blue blanket pulled just so—like a hotel room you promise not to mess up (and then immediately do). It’s furniture, not a sleeper, so if you want snoring energy, pair it with Zzz or snag the Person in Bed emoji. In texts, it’s used dramatically (I’m DONE), sarcastically (big night out = in bed by 9), and aspirationally (self-care Sunday loading). Social posts love it for travel recaps (“finally a real mattress”), WFH confessions, and late-night doomscroll admissions. It’s the digital do-not-disturb sign—polite, cozy, and just a little bit feral when paired with a snack emoji at 2 a.m.

Emoji History The emoji code/ image log of changes.
This emoji was one of the "suggested emojis" the Unicode group unveiled in June 2014 [article], however, it has been, and still is, up to the companies who support emoji in their operating systems to provide not only images but also an algorithm to replace the emoji code into the emoji image.
