Tag Latin Small Letter I is a Plane 14 tag character (U+E0069) used as part of emoji tag sequences rather than as a standalone symbol. It is default-ignorable and normally renders invisibly, so you will not see it by itself in typical text or emoji keyboards. In emoji systems, tag letters like this one are appended to the Black Flag character (U+1F3F4), followed by a sequence of other tag letters and closed with the Cancel Tag character (U+E007F) to build special flag-like emoji. Only a small set of such sequences are widely recognized, and unsupported combinations are usually ignored or displayed as the base black flag alone.
Historically, Plane 14 tag characters were introduced for metadata-like tagging and later repurposed for emoji flag tag sequences. The letter i can appear as one of the lowercase tag letters a–z used to encode identifiers in these sequences, though it is not by itself tied to any specific recommended flag. On Apple platforms (iOS, iPadOS, macOS), this character remains invisible and only has an effect when used inside a supported Black Flag tag sequence that ends with Cancel Tag; otherwise, it is ignored and may result in a plain 🏴 or a fallback rendering. Developers should treat it as a structural component: it does not alter skin tone, join characters, or request emoji presentation, and it is meaningful only within tag-based flag constructions.
