Cancellation X refers to a proposed or discussed emoji-style symbol concept for a clear βcancel,β βdelete,β βreject,β or βnoβ mark, closely related to existing X-shaped characters such as the cross mark, multiplication sign, and ballot X. In emoji and Unicode discussions from the mid-2010s expansion era, symbols like this were often considered as candidates because users wanted simple pictographic ways to show refusal, error, dismissal, failure, or stopping an action. The idea was culturally familiar from user interfaces, forms, grading marks, warning dialogs, and internet shorthand, where a big X can mean βwrong,β βclosed,β βcanceled,β βnot allowed,β or βI disagree.β However, Cancellation X did not become a widely recognized officially approved emoji under that exact name, and its role was largely covered by existing emoji such as β Cross Mark, β Cross Mark Button, βοΈ Multiply, and π« Prohibited.

Emoji History The emoji code/ image log of changes.
This emoji was one of the "suggested emojis" the Unicode group unveiled in June 2014 [article], however, it has been, and still is, up to the companies who support emoji in their operating systems to provide not only images but also an algorithm to replace the emoji code into the emoji image.
