Tag Latin Small Letter C is a special Unicode tag character (code point U+E0063) used inside emoji tag sequences. It does not render as a visible βcβ and is typically zero-width, acting more like a control component than a standalone symbol. In emoji systems, tag letters are appended to a base emojiβmost notably the Black Flag (U+1F3F4)βto request specific tagged variants such as certain subdivision flags. A valid emoji tag sequence must end with the Cancel Tag (U+E007F) terminator; without it, rendering may fall back to just the base emoji.
On most platforms, including Apple/iOS, Tag Latin Small Letter C is invisible by itself and is only meaningful when part of a recognized tag sequence. Apple and other major vendors commonly support only a small set of subdivision flags using this mechanism (for example, those derived from U+1F3F4 plus a specific string of tag letters and a final cancel tag). If the sequence is unrecognized, users may see just the black flag or a fallback, rather than a custom flag; the tag letters themselves remain hidden. Tag characters were originally designed for plain-text tagging and later repurposed for emoji use, and they are distinct from Regional Indicator Symbols (used for country flags) and from the normal visible Latin letter βc.β Developers should use exact lowercase ASCII tag letters and include the Cancel Tag to ensure proper parsing across platforms.
