Tag Latin Small Letter O (U+E006F) is a tag character from the Unicode Tags block used as an invisible component inside emoji tag sequences. It is a default-ignorable, zero-width character that normally does not display by itself and is not a standalone emoji. In emoji, tag letters follow the Waving Black Flag (U+1F3F4) and are terminated by CANCEL TAG (U+E007F) to form an Emoji Tag Sequence that may map to a special rendering if the whole tag is recognized. Most platforms only render a small allowlist of such sequences (notably the subdivision flags for England, Scotland, and Wales); otherwise, the sequence typically falls back to showing just the black flag while the tag letters, including this one, remain invisible. The letter “o” is one of the generic components available for constructing tags, but it is not part of the widely supported subdivision flag sequences.
On Apple/iOS, this character by itself is not shown, and in unsupported sequences it remains hidden while the base flag displays as a plain black flag. In some diagnostic contexts or with limited fonts it may appear as a missing-glyph box, but in normal text it behaves as an invisible formatting code. The Tags mechanism was introduced to carry tag-like data in plain text and was later repurposed for emoji to encode certain flags; it should not be confused with Regional Indicator Symbols (used for country flags) or with ZWJ sequences. It does not modify skin tone or emoji style and only functions as part of a larger tag-based sequence. Developers should treat it as a non-printing component and preserve it in emoji strings for interoperability across platforms that recognize specific tag sequences.
