Sideways White Up Pointing Index refers to a proposed or discussed pointer-hand emoji concept based on the older Unicode tradition of index-finger symbols, especially the white up pointing index and related left/right pointing hands. It was not adopted as a distinct, officially approved emoji character, and it should be understood as a candidate-style idea rather than a standard Apple or Unicode emoji. In 2014-era emoji discussions, many legacy dingbat, pointing, and interface-like symbols were considered for emoji presentation because users wanted more expressive hand gestures for directing attention, reacting to posts, and replacing text arrows.

This emoji was one of the "suggested emojis" the Unicode group unveiled in June 2014 [article], however, it has been, and still is, up to the companies who support emoji in their operating systems to provide not only images but also an algorithm to replace the emoji code into the emoji image.
